Are you passionate about creating meaningful change with some of the most vulnerable people in society? If so, then join the team as a Principal Forensic Psychologist at Wellesley Hospital. You’ll be part of an environment where there is good access to training resources and the opportunity to contribute to the development of the service.

Situated in Wellington, Wellesley Hospital is surrounded by the beautiful Somerset countryside, with close access to beaches and only 30 minutes’ drive from Bristol and Exeter.

Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, you will provide care to men and women with mental health conditions in a modern and purpose-built hospital with low and medium secure environments. Plus, a brand-new learning disability service opening its door in the coming months.

You will be a part of a vibrant and enthusiastic psychology department, you will collaboratively provide risk assessments, psychometric assessments, individual and group interventions. You will also facilitate staff reflective practice sessions, deliver training, provide supervision and undertake research.

As a Forensic Psychologist, you will have experience of managing a clinical caseload, including assessing complex needs and designing and delivering specialist psychological treatments to support collaborative working and recovery.  

Overseeing the forensic psychology provision across the service, you'll be a part of an environment where there is a strong emphasis on teamwork and positive risk-taking. Experience in specific offence focused assessments and therapy and group work would be an advantage, however full training can be provided.

Your responsibilities:

  • Participate fully with the multidisciplinary team and promote collaborative working with clients throughout their care.  
  • Support clinical team working, including direct interventions, consultation and the delivery of staff training programmes. 
  • Support the clinical team and service in developing new initiatives and ways of working. 
  • Work with internal and external agencies to enhance treatment pathways.
  • Supervise members of the psychology department and other professionals as required. 

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • British Psychological Society or a recognised training body qualification.
  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist and Charterable status with the British Psychological Society.
  • At least 2 years’ experience of working with clients with complex needs. Applications from candidates with less experience but a clear interest in this area may be considered.
  • Experience in using psychological models and theories to address a range of risk and offending issues.
