AGI UK’s head office and electromechanical assembly facilities are based in Royston, Hertfordshire and we have a glass fabrication facility in Sutton, near Ely, Cambridgeshire. Overview

We are now seeking a bright and devoted software engineer to join the expanding software team. The role will be involved in the development of premium quality chemical processing equipment marketed within the Syrris (www.syrris.com) and AGI (www.agi-glassplant.com) brands.

The role will report to the Software Engineering Manager of AGI UK and work within a multi-disciplinary R&D department consisting of electro-mechanical, software and test engineers. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, willing to learn and keen to make a positive impact.

Job brief

The Graduate Embedded Software Engineer will be involved in the implementation and delivery of a wide range of high-quality software solutions for laboratory-scale to pilot-plant scale automation products used in the synthesis of chemicals.

The Graduate Embedded Software Engineer will be expected to produce and maintain good quality software while working within a small Agile team.

Responsibilities

Duties will include but are not limited to

  • Participating in all stages of the software development process for new product development.
  • Supporting continuous product improvement activities for existing products.
  • Adopting engineering best practices such as TDD, CI/CD, code reviews and clean code.
  • Collaborating with the product owner in discovering product requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree 2.1 and above in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Physics.
  • Programming experience in C and C++ programming languages.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated team player with ability to work autonomously.
Some Non-essential But Desirable Experiences Include
  • Familiarity with Git or similar version control systems.
  • Knowledge in common hardware interfaces, i.e. RS232, USB, Ethernet etc.
  • Experience with development of desktop and embedded applications.
  • Familiarity with Linux systems, embedded OS and microcontrollers.
  • Experience in Python development.
