Clerks to Governors (Full training provided)

The role will appeal to self-reliant individuals who want a role that allows flexible, home based working during school term time. Hours are flexible and include evening meetings to meet the requirements of our leaders in schools. We are looking for individuals who have excellent administrative skills, strong customer care skills and a personal commitment to excellence in service delivery. You must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and translate complex information into easily understood guidance.

What are you going to do:

This is a zero hours contract as the number of hours available per week is variable. Full training will be provided to successful applicants.

  • Provide effective administrative support to the governing board and its committees by scheduling meetings, preparing the agenda, sending out the agenda and meeting details to participants
  • Attend meetings in person or virtually, take meeting minutes, prepare and disseminate the minutes
  • Using ICT to provide administrative support to the Governing Board
  • Provide advice to the governing board on governance, constitutional and procedural matters. The new regulations require governing boards to have regard to advice from the clerk regarding exercising the governing board functions
  • Ensure the governing board is properly constituted.
  • Manage information effectively in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with outside agencies e.g., departments of the local authority, Department for Education
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of legislation and guidance that has an impact on the work of the governing board, e.g., Data Protection, Freedom of Information, codes of governance
