Healthcare Assistant (Day Surgery Unit) - COVID-19

Job description

We have an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our Day Surgery Unit based at The London Clinic’s main hospital in Central London, W1G (Close to Regents Park & Baker Street tube stations).

Established in 1932, The London Clinic is one of the UK’s largest private hospitals, with state-of-the-art facilities located on Harley Street. We have circa 1300 employees, a total of 8 premises, and we are dedicated to providing the best, personalised healthcare with a breadth of surgical and medical expertise.

Our main hospital spans 8 floors comprising of over 130 patient beds and 10 theatresincluding a Hybrid theatre and two minimally invasive and day surgery theatres.Our Day Surgery Unit comprises of 16 day case rooms on the main ward, and a day case unit for our local anaesthesia walk in/walk out patients, which is designed to improve the experience for patients and consultants.

 

Job Description

The Healthcare Assistant will work under direct or indirect supervision of the Day Surgery Manager, nursing staff and Lead sister to provide assistance with overall day surgery processes, ensuring overall care and safety to the patient, visitors and staff.

 

  • Job Type:This is a full time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday.
  • Shifts:Working 2x Long Days & 2x Early or Late shifts per week (Long Days = 7am to 8:15pm / Early = 7am to 3pm / Late = 12pm to 8pm).
  • Salary:The attractive salary for this role is £24,387 - £27,853 (inclusive of London Weighting) and will be dependent upon skills and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to patients, recognising their individuality, and promoting privacy and dignity at all times
  • Perform, document and report clinical observations and report changes in patient’s condition to nurse in charge or Consultant. This may include temperature, manual blood pressure, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation and blood glucose monitoring.
  • Assist the Day Surgery nursing team and multidisciplinary team with specified tests requested by Consultants and Lead Nurses that may be performed in the day surgery setting, charging and inputting data for these on the Clinic computer system.
  • Maintain a safe care environment by minimising risk and applying the principles of safe movement and handling of patients and moving of equipment

 

Skills & Experience

  • Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant in a surgical area within an acute UK hospital setting.
  • NVQ in Health Care Level 3 or Level 2 Health Care Certificate
  • Excellent interpersonal skills who is friendly, flexible and adaptable in your approach.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • To be polite and pleasant with an appropriate professional demeanour and also able to cope with stressful and sensitive situations.
