Communications Officer- Casual in London

City of London School for Girls is looking to appoint a communications officer from the end of August to assist across all aspects of communications at the school. This post will report to the communications manager, but will also support a busy external relations team. The role will involve writing and editing news stories, posting on social media, updating the school website, helping with events organised by the external relations department and general administration. This role is initially temporary, but there is an opportunity for the post to become permanent. This position would suit a bright recent graduate who would like to gain experience across a wide range of media.

£16.92 Per Hour

What are you going to do:

School website

  • Updating the school website with news, staff, school information etc
  • Liaising with other departments to ensure all areas of the website are up to date (including admissions, HR, policies etc.)
  • Working on new initiatives (such as new films) and functionality, and liaising with website developers.

 

Newsletter

  • Commissioning and editing copy for fortnightly newsletter
  • Sourcing images and commissioning or undertaking photography
  • Laying out the newsletter using Mailchimp
  • Sending out the newsletter to the school community

 

Publications

  • Producing copy and assisting with development materials
  • Supporting the alumnae officer with newsletters and publications
  • Working with admissions department to produce admissions booklets and other marketing materials

 

School Branding

  • To assist with the production of on brand print, merchandise and digital design
  • To assist in the updating and running of digital signage around the school

 

Social Media

  • Helping post on Twitter/Instagram
  • Actively contributing to the school’s social media strategy

 

Student Journalism

  • Helping support student journalism in the school e.g., approving and working on new publications, helping with writing, design and printing, and proof reading
  • Working with student team to commission, edit and proof copy from for the annual magazine; source suitable images; liaise with designer.

 

Admissions

  • Providing appropriate material and resources for the admissions processes and related marketing opportunities
  • Helping to organise and run open events, including the use of Eventbrite or similar events sites

 

Development and alumnae relations

  • Assisting with fundraising and alumnae relations, including helping to manage and assist at events

 

The assistant will also work with the communications and media manager to support other communications activity within the school. This may include working on other publications, proof-reading documents, assisting staff with branding enquiries, advising on design, monitoring the school’s appearance in the media and assisting with press enquiries, and helping with broad initiatives, such as event organisation.

  • Support other administrative and organisational tasks required elsewhere in the school as necessary
  • Actively seek to implement and comply with the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures and to demonstrate a commitment to the safety and welfare of children.
  • Actively seek to implement the City of London’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy in relation to the duties of the post, and at all times give due regard to the health and safety of both themselves and others when carrying out their duties.
  • Reporting all accidents to the bursar via the City’s Accident Reporting Helpline.
  • Informing the bursar of any concerns regarding Health and Safety and safe working practices.
  • Actively seeking to implement the City of London’s Equal Opportunity Policy and the objective to promote equality of opportunity in relation to the duties of the post.
  • To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be requested appropriate to the grade. This job description may be amended from time to time in discussion with the role holder.
