IT Security Apprentice

IT Security Apprenticeship:

We are looking to recruit an IT Security Apprentice to join our existing IT Security team. 

Working with the IT Security team to coordinate our daily checks, security monitoring and end user support across our environment.

As a member of the IT Security team, you will be exposed to aspects of our IT environment and its components. The successful candidate will be required to work with the IT Security team to identify and resolve security related issues.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Over the course of the apprenticeship, once trained, the apprentice can expect their role to encompass activities including:

• General day-to-day support on managing and responding to security alerts from systems and end users
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly security checks, reconciliation and compliance checks and investigate exceptions
• Identify and raise awareness of security risks (specialising in Phishing emails)
• Assist the wider IT test team in addressing security queries and issues
• Support the training and awareness of security and IT risks across Pets at Home
• Maintain and manage the IT Risk register to ensure that IT risks are regularly reviewed, correctly identified, assessed, reported and mitigated in line with recommended best practices
• Develop stakeholder relations and work closely with stakeholders to agree solutions to findings

About the Apprenticeship

The Successful applicant will complete the Cyber Security Technologist Level 4 Apprenticeship.

This programme covers intermediate fundamentals of network security, cyber security, and risk management. The programme will allow the apprentice to gain a baseline knowledge of network cyber security concepts which is further enhanced according to their chosen option.

All three options will include knowledge of cyber security concepts, risk, governance, regulation, and compliance.

Key areas covered in the apprenticeship are:

• Networking & Cyber Security Fundamentals

• Network Security

• Threat, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment

• Operating System Security

• Cryptography

• IT Security & Management Frameworks

• Access Control Systems

• Security Policies

Essential Recruitment Requirements

• This is an entry level position however an interest in Cyber security is a key requirement and applicants with an understanding of IT systems will be at an advantage in this process.
• This is a hybrid role and successful applicants will work both in the office and at home. Successful applicants must be able to commit to this arrangement. 
• As the IT security team are based in both of our Support office (Handforth and Swindon) travel will be required at times, therefore the successful applicant must be open to travel. 

To qualify for this apprenticeship all applicants must have the following qualifications:

• A minimum of 5 GCSEs, A levels or a Level 3 qualification (apprenticeship or BTEC in a relatable subject)
• STEM subjects will be of benefit in this apprenticeship however they are not a requirement.
