The location

The Shires is a nine bed registered Children’s home. We support Children and Young People from the ages of 11 – 19 years build incredible futures by giving them opportunities, developing their life skills and personal interests. 

This home is based in Stretton and is within commuting distance from Peterborough, Grantham and Melton Mowbray.

The opportunity

This is a role with an exciting career and development plan, structured to ensure our staff are trained, supported, and continually developed. There will be a thorough induction, fully expensed training courses, the opportunity to be enrolled on an accredited diploma and pairing with a buddy, which together will help you expand your knowledge, get qualifications, and prepare to become a Qualified Care Worker. The Role

Options Autism Work directly with autistic Children who exhibit a wide range of abilities, from non-verbal to high-functioning and You will be patient and compassionate and, most of all, dependable – working hard to forge a much-needed relationship of trust with those in your care.

This will involve creatively learning about the young person’s interests as well as their dislikes and their triggers, using that connection as a launchpad for a rewarding relationship. A passion for this kind of relationship-building is essential.

You will be responsible for the wellbeing of the children or young people in your care. This will include chaperoning the children to appointments and activities, completing relevant paperwork, undertaking household tasks, and where appropriate administering medication.

Working as part of an incredible team of committed care workers, you will co-operate and share knowledge and learning to the benefit of great care. Excellent communication skills are essential, both in terms of teamwork and – most importantly – as you will be in close contact with the children you care for.
