The role requires a highly organised, Senior Paralegal to cover our insurance portfolio and support the legal director with reviewing the company risk profile to ensure the insurance programme is fit for purpose.




What you'll be doing

As a Senior Paralegal, you will manage external relationships with Brokers, External Third-Party Claims Administrators, Claims Management Companies and Auditors. You will provide technical insurance advise and guidance to the business to include assistance with contract negotiations, complex claims, policy cover, risk, mitigation, techniques, and emerging trends. In addition to duties, you will be responsible, for the following:

  • Assist the Legal Director by providing recommendations in terms of insurer, limits of cover, retention levels, policy wording and pricing.
  • Manage and develop service provider relationships, ensuring they have a high level of understanding of the business and ensuring quality and delivery of service.
  • Take ownership of the day-to-day management of external lawyers, with responsibility for making key decisions in respect of settling complex cases or running them to trial.
  • Take responsibility for developing and maintaining key protocol documents to include agreed processes, escalation, key stakeholders and cashflow requirements.
  • Build key relationships with internal stakeholders within the business (H&S, Facilities, Fleet, Operations, legal) and ensure regular dialogue to flag issues/trends and to keep updated in terms of emerging risks or any material change that may need disclosing to insurers.
  • Take responsibility for gathering and sense checking all renewal data.
  • Record and monitor all changes to the property portfolio and oversee and co-ordinate responses for risk improvement/engineering surveys.
  • Support the Legal Director with management of the insurance budget (to include premiums and self-insured retentions) and manage all relevant financials - cashflows, self-insured provisions, third party management fees and imprest fund reconciliations as well as raising purchase orders and paying invoices.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, team player with a high attention to detail. The role requires organisation and often will be working with tight deadlines, so you will be able to affectively prioritise work and remain highly professional in all aspects of the role.

You will be comfortable communicating with external and internal stakeholders at all levels and be able to support and challenge colleagues if necessary. In addition to this you will also be able to demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • Case management and insurance experience is desirable.

  • Degree or other legal qualification such as CILEx
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. Litigation experience is desirable, and preferably the role holder would have some previous legal work experience.
  • A strong fleet background is desirable.
