Intern for contemporary art gallery
Massimo De Carlo, London-Milan is a renowned gallery representing international names such as Rudolf Stingel and Maurizio Cattelan, amongst other artists of worldwide acclaim. Working within a small team, the successful candidate will gain a general understanding of all elements involved in the daily running of a successful commercial gallery.
Job description
Massimo De Carlo London is looking for 1 intern to work 3 days a week for 6 months, expenses paid.
Working within a small team, the successful candidate will gain a general understanding of all elements involved in the daily running of a successful commercial gallery. Based front-of-house in the beautiful space in Mayfair, duties will include welcoming visitors to the building, admin controls and liaising and dealing with artists and suppliers. He will also be responsible for maintaining the FileMaker client database and maintaining the smooth daily running of the gallery.
The position will focus mainly on event preparation and gallery maintenance.
In addition to duties mentioned above, the candidate will have the following responsibilities:
- Events organization
- Ensuring the smooth running of the gallery by ordering office stationery
- Assist the sales person with the necessary documents (work lists, price lists, research,…)
- Arrange travel requirements for trips for the Gallery Director
- Assemble materials for art fair, putting together artists’ files and catalogues
- Upload artwork images onto the server archive
- Update the iPad with our artists’ profiles and our MDC app with images and information for art fairs
- Checking all the material for art fairs, assisting on the installation and de-installation of fair booths if required
The gallery sends and receives a lot of works from Europe and the US and is involved in all of the major contemporary art fairs. Filemaker is a software programme used by most established galleries, so knowledge of this will be a highly sought after skill by future employees within the arts & museum sectors.
Essential requirements (please don’t apply if you don’t have these skills):
- The candidate has to be based in London
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Computer literacy: very good knowledge of Mac System, Photoshop, Word, Excel, Adobe Reader, Google Chrome and Safari
- At least a bachelor’s degree in History of Art or similar
- The candidate must be confident and presentable with a friendly disposition
- Knowledge of Filemaker desiderable
Around the opening of an exhibition the gallery often holds events & receptions, so the candidates must be willing to work an occasional evening if and when required.
We expect the new interns to start on the third week of June.
