What We Do: South Africa Volunteers specialises in providing volunteer Sports Coaches (and a number of teachers) to township schools in South Africa. Sport is not yet on the national curriculum in South Africa, and so without the help of volunteers like you, they would not get the chance to have that 1 hour of sport a day that can make all the difference in their development. We provide all volunteers with full support from the start of their application, to arriving in South Africa and right through their volunteer placement. With set intake dates throughout the year, our South Africa Volunteers programmes are extremely social and we know you will make friends for life.

South Africa is definitely a country not to miss, and with Sky Dives, Safari’s, Bungee Jumps, shark cage diving and beaches on your doorstep, what more could you want?
You can basically coach any sport you would like. Our most common sports for coaching out there are Football, Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Tennis, Cricket and Swimming. However, if you are passionate about a sport that isn’t mentioned, please do get in touch and we will see what we can do to arrange a class for you to coach it. We have two set lengths of projects, 5 and 12 weeks long. However, if you wanted to volunteer for an amount of time in-between such as 7 weeks, please just let the team know. All volunteers stay in Volunteer accommodation in a great area. The accommodation is equipped with Wifi, a TV, a swimming pool, a TV, a small basic kitchenette, a pool table, a ping pong table and a great garden and BBQ area.
As Nelson Mandela said ‘Sport has the power to change the world…Sport can create hope’, and this message has inspired the South Africa Volunteers project. The children in South Africa’s townships do not get the opportunity to play sport within their school day due to low funding and resources, and this is where you come in…the volunteers!
