Job description
Must Have:
- Registered on the Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with a license to practice
- Experience of CAMHS Forensic and/or eating disorders
- Core Psychiatry Training (CT1–CT3): 3 years full-time training covering general adult psychiatry and other subspecialties, enabling eligibility for Higher Specialist Training.
- Higher Specialist Training (ST4–ST6): 3 years in a chosen psychiatry subspecialty (e.g., adult, forensic, child and adolescent, or old age psychiatry), leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT): Confirms eligibility for consultant psychiatrist roles and placement on the GMC Specialist Register.
- Educational Qualifications: Recognized medical degree (e.g., MBBS, MBChB) from a GMC-approved institution.

This is a unique opportunity to progress your career and be part of a new and innovative partnership initiative delivering a Tier 4 CAMHS inpatient service for young people aged 13–18 with general mental health presentations, including disordered eating.
As a CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist within a hybrid clinical and operational model, you will deliver evidence-based and focused treatment plans to support children, young people, and their families as they navigate their care plans and work toward physical and emotional recovery.
Working alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will help tailor treatment programs to the individual needs of each young person, providing care in a warm and nurturing environment. This approach enables deep understanding of symptoms, behavioral patterns, and the origins of psychological distress.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing referrals and determining appropriateness for admission
- Conducting admission assessments and managing care plans for all young people on the unit
- Performing risk assessments and regular reviews
- Allocating specialist psychological treatments based on individual needs
- Assessing physical health needs
- Liaising effectively with referring teams
- Facilitating regular CPA review meetings
- Acting as the Responsible Clinician for young people detained under the Mental Health Act
- Participating in quality improvement, inspections, and governance processes
- Taking part in the On Call Consultant rota
