Job Title: Interim Quantity Surveyor (x2)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness (2–3 days on site, remainder remote)

Contract Duration: 12 months (with potential extension)

Rate: £500 per day Outside IR35

Security Clearance: Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance

Overview

Our client, a respected and established UK cost consultancy, is seeking two experienced Interim Quantity Surveyors to support a major defence infrastructure project in Barrow-in-Furness. This long-term programme, expected to run for 12+ months, requires strong NEC contract knowledge and preferably experience working on MOD/defence schemes.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing team on a nationally significant project. Suitable candidates will have a track record of NEC contract administration, cost control, and stakeholder management in complex and secure environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer NEC3/NEC4 contracts (primarily Option A and/or C)
• Prepare and assess applications for payment, compensation events, and change control
• Provide accurate cost reporting, forecasting, and risk analysis
• Engage with project stakeholders including client-side, contractors, and defence representatives
• Assist in the development of procurement strategies and cost plans
• Support project audits, valuations, and progress reviews
• Contribute to dispute resolution and claims management as needed

Required Experience & Skills

• Demonstrable experience working under NEC contracts in a live project environment
• Previous experience on defence, infrastructure, or major public-sector capital projects
• Proven ability to work independently on-site and remotely
• Strong commercial awareness and contract management expertise
• Excellent stakeholder communication and report writing skills
• Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or similar
• Member of RICS or working toward MRICS (desirable)
• Eligible for UK Security Clearance (BPSS/SC/DV depending on role access level)
