Head of Finance – Biotech Manufacturing

Location: Liverpool

Package: c. £100,000, 25 days holiday, 3% pension

Status: Early-stage facility – first finance hire

A rapidly scaling UK-based biotech manufacturer is seeking a hands-on, commercially minded Head of Finance for its newly acquired production facility. As the business builds towards commercial-scale manufacturing, this role offers a rare opportunity to help shape a site and finance function from the ground up.

You will be the first finance hire on site, responsible for creating all finance processes, partnering closely with the Site General Manager, Engineering and Operations leads, and the Group CFO

What the role looks like

As the senior finance leader on site, you will:

• Build and operate the end-to-end finance function for a biotech manufacturing business scaling into commercial production
• Establish and run core processes including AP, financial controls, reporting, procurement workflows and budgeting
• Work closely with engineering and operations leaders to appraise and monitor capital expenditure and site improvement projects
• Deliver monthly management accounts, operational KPIs, and quarterly board-level reporting
• Ensure timely, accurate submission of statutory, tax and compliance requirements
• Support the Site GM in implementing site policies and business processes
• Lead the selection and rollout of a fit-for-purpose manufacturing finance/ERP system as the business grows
• Build and develop a finance team over time, as the facility scales

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking someone who thrives in an early-stage environment—an individual who is excited by the challenge of building structure, creating systems, and establishing a function where one does not yet exists. Based full time on site.

You will bring:

• Qualified accountant status with 10+ years PQE and strong manufacturing experience
• Experience partnering closely with engineering and operations teams
• A proven track record in capex evaluation and investment appraisals
• A hands-on, pragmatic approach—you will initially deliver all finance tasks yourself
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to communicate across disciplines

Package & Benefits

• c.£100,000 base salary
