Job description
Well established retail brand are currently looking for a Freelance Womenswear Designer focus primarily on their Outerwear (coats and jackets) category.
This is a critical specialist role demanding a rare combination of creative skills, High-End Fashion sensibility and deep Fabric Technology expertise to develop elegant, highly functional, and performance-driven products.
Key Responsibilities & Focus Areas
- Outerwear Design Leadership: Drive the design and development of innovative women's coats and jackets, ensuring the collection is commercially viable, technically sound, and aligned with our client's premium, aspirational aesthetic.
- Technical Authority: Apply a deep and current knowledge of Fabric Technology, Construction, and Performance (e.g., waterproofing, breathability, insulation) essential for specialist technical garments.
- Innovation: Research and propose cutting-edge fabric innovations, finishes, and protective technologies (e.g., insect-repellent coatings) to push the boundaries of product functionality.
- Aesthetic Direction: Deliver a final product that consistently achieves a refined, elegant, and functional look and feel, bridging the gap between high-end fashion and practical utility.
Required Candidate Profile & Brand Alignment
- High-End Fashion / Premium Contemporary Design: Direct experience with brands known for quality, refined aesthetics, and an aspirational market position.
- Fabric Technology: A strong, technical, and applied understanding of material performance, specs, and specialist finish applications.
- Outerwear Apparel: Demonstrable senior-level experience in the development of complex, constructed jackets and coats.
- Performance Design Principles: Knowledge of functional fit and performance attributes relevant to technical/outdoor apparel.
