This role is the perfect chance for you to advance your career within the SGN Operations Directorate, and the best part is, no prior experience is necessary – we will provide you with all training and experience to enable you to carry out the role.

We deliver safety, warmth, and comfort to homes and businesses. Every role, whether in the office or on the front line, plays a key part in this mission. Here’s how you will contribute…

  • Inspecting SGN sites, both direct labour and contractor, ensuring that all Road Works are carried out in a safe manner and that sites comply or exceed the “Safety at Road and Street Works - A Code of Practice” (Red Book)
  • Auditing reinstatements by means of compaction tests (cleggs), visual inspections, and core sampling
  • Ensuring compliance with the Specification of Reinstatements of Opening in Roads (SROR) of all reinstatements in both public and private areas throughout Scotland
  • Recording all inspection results using Microsoft Excel and evidencing inspections with suitable SGN data capture Apps (FYLD, Image Capture)
  • Recording and reporting failed or dangerous sites to the relevant team managers real time by telephone and email, allowing them to act on and remedy any defects or unsafe sites

What You Will Need

  • A self-driven individual who can manage their own day to day workload, plan routes, use their own initiative and work as part of a team
  • Problem solving and influencing skills – encouraging colleagues to challenge established ways of working
  • Have demonstrated and adopted SGN’s safety culture in everyday working
  • To be comfortable working roadside and on live sites
  • A willingness to learn and develop through training and shadowing
  • Full Driving License
  • Would be beneficial, but not essential:
  • An understanding of road works standards and specifications; knowledge of NRSWA, SROR, and Codes of Practice
