Fermentation Technician / Fermenter

MacGregor Black is proud to partner with a leading premium beverage producer in the search for a Technical Fermenter / Fermentation Technician. This is a permanent, site-based role in Buckinghamshire.


This is a hands-on production role at the core of the business, responsible for managing live fermentations, supporting filtration and packaging, and ensuring microbiological control across all batches. You’ll work closely with Operations and Quality teams, using modern equipment and robust SOPs to deliver consistently high-quality product.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct, monitor, and document day-to-day fermentations and filtrations in line with the production schedule
  • Apply microbiological principles to ensure fermentation health, stability, and batch consistency
  • Follow fermentation, filtration, and hygiene SOPs precisely, maintaining strict safety and quality standards
  • Work closely with Operations and Quality teams to identify risks and prevent contamination issues
  • Support bottling and canning operations as required
  • Assist with warehouse duties including stock checks, box builds, and production flow support
  • Maintain accurate production records, monitor equipment performance, and carry out CIP procedures
  • Support compliance with SALSA and BRC standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives


What We’re Looking For

  • Formal education in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Brewing Science, Food Science, or a related discipline
  • Hands-on experience in fermentation, brewing, or beverage production
  • Practical understanding of fermentation processes and microbiological control within production environments
  • Confident using brewing or production management software (e.g. Breww or similar)
  • Detail-oriented, methodical, and comfortable working with live cultures and controlled processes
  • Physically fit, adaptable, and proactive in a fast-paced production setting
  • Forklift truck certification desirable, but not essential
