Prospective Parliamentary Candidate
Open Party is looking for an Prospective Parliamentary Candidate in Newport
Job description
Who are we?
The Open Party aims to make democracy better by empowering a wider range of individuals to participate in the political process. Unlike traditional parties, The Open Party draws candidates from the general public rather than party members, expanding the pool of potential leaders to represent the whole population. We operate through open primaries, enabling the public to select the candidates of theri preference. Open Party candidates stand on their own agenda, supported practically and financially by the Party. The party is running its first pilot program in the Newport area (Casnewydd Islwyn constituency) ahead of the 2026 Senedd elections. The programme will be rolled out in 2029/30 for the UK Westminster elections. For those interested in standing or supporting a more open political system, further information can be found at openparty.uk.
Who are you?
You are someone with deep experience, original insight and proven talent. You are now looking to contribute towards national government through political leadership. You are not an active member of a political party, or are looking to progress outwith a traditional party. You are resident in Wales and have a meaningful connection to the Newport area. Is this you? Or perhaps you know someone who fits the bill?
What is on offer?
The Open Party provides all the support one would expect from a traditional political party, but without the catch. You are standing on your own platform, not selling a party’s manifesto. You can say what you believe and advance the issues that are important to you. You operate free of any party whip. You take part in a competitive primary election, where if selected by the public you stand as one of six Open Party candidates to represent Casnewydd Islwyn.
We will finance 100% of your election campaign. A typical candidate’s campaign is around £12,000. We will also provide the advice and campaign support you need to compete with the traditional parties. You will be looked after. Other Open Party candidates and supporters will be there to leaflet, canvas and campaign for you. If elected, we will help you hit the ground running as an effective and active MS.
