Treasurer Trustee - Environment Charity - Volunteer
WORK AND PLAY SCRAPSTORE is looking for an Treasurer Trustee - Environment Charity - Volunteer in London
Job description
Would you like to use your financial expertise to add value to a popular and successful local charity? We need a Trustee Treasurer to drive our financial strategy to ensure the continued success of our organisation.
What difference will you make?
An effective Treasurer is critical to WaPS fulfilling its governance obligations as a Charity and to ensuring our future as a popular, local, relied-upon charity.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with experience of working within the financial arena with good financial analysis skills and a good understanding of financial issues for a small charity and the implications/consequences of proper financial management and control.
The Treasurer will need to have good independent judgement and good ability to evaluate risk.
The Treasurer will need to be willing to make time to work collaboratively with the management team at the Scrapstore and the other Trustees to ensure an appropriate financial strategy is in place. We meet every two months in Wandsworth.
What will you be doing?
We run a warehouse where our 1,300 members, including schools, individual artists and groups, can collect unlimited art supplies which companies would otherwise have thrown away. Members pay a nominal annual fee. Our team of 50 volunteers stock the shelves and run reception. Together, we have saved over 60 tons of valuable supplies from landfill this year. Last year's supplies were valued by our members at over £320,000. The average member takes over 4x the value of their membership, enabling artists to make more great art. We run a wide range of community and educational arts, crafts and reuse activities.
The Trustee Treasurer will work with the Board to ensure Work and Play Scrapstore’s financial viability and stability by advising the Trustee Board on the financial implications of decisions and strategic plans. The Treasurer will ensure WaPS has an appropriate investment policy which does not conflict with the aims of WaPS and that WaPS’ financial resources are sufficient for current and projected spending.
The Treasurer is also responsible for ensuring that proper financial procedures, controls and recording processes are in place and that WaPS is acting within legal, constitutional and accepted financial management practice. In addition, the Treasurer will need to team with the WaPS management team to ensure the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits.
We need a new Treasurer to help us to continue to build on this success and to collaborate with our Board in developing the sustainability of our operating model.
