Job description

Applications are invited for a Post-Doc position available in the group of Prof Casiraghi, department of Chemistry, University of Manchester.

The project will focus on the use of an aerosol jet printer, which has been recently purchased by the group. The postdoc will optimize and use the printer with the aim of achieving 2 objectives: i) testing crystallization of molecular precursors by aerosol jet printing to compare with the blow coating process developed in our group [Nature Communications volume 15, Article number: 2015 (2024)]; ii) printing films made of water-based 2D material inks made in the group with the final aim to control their chemical local composition for target devices, such as memristors.

This post is available to be filled ASAP for two years with possible extension, subjected to funding. Applicants should have a PhD (by the start date) in Chemistry, Material Science, Physics or related subjects.

Significant experience with the aerosol jet printer or at least a piezoelectric printer, as well as in the formulation of printable 2D material inks, is required to be shortlisted for interview. Preference will be given to applicants that will demonstrate this experience applied to memristic devices.

The candidate should also be well-organised and self-motivated with excellent oral and communication skills. A strong publication record in internationally peer-reviewed journals is required, with at least 2 works in well-known and respected journals as first author.

The closing date for applications is on 09/01/2026 with interviews currently planned in the following two weeks.

As this role involves research at a postgraduate level, applicants who are not an EEA national or a national of an exempt country and who will require sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route of the UK Visas and Immigration’s (UKVI) Points Based System in order to take up the role, will be required to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) Certificate and will need to obtain this prior to making any official visa application UKVI.
