Volunteer SROI Project Adviser - Volunteer
Ethical Property Foundation is looking for an Volunteer SROI Project Adviser - Volunteer in London
Job description
Use your SROI expertise to help the UK’s leading property advice charity measure its impact. We’re seeking a volunteer to develop a clear, practical framework showing the social value of our work supporting charities and social enterprises across the UK.
What difference will you make?
This role will play a vital part in helping the Ethical Property Foundation demonstrate the social value of our work and strengthen our ability to evidence our impact to funders, partners, and supporters.
Our charity provides free and affordable property advice to voluntary organisations across the UK, helping them make informed decisions about their buildings, reduce financial and legal risks, and focus more of their resources on front-line services. Every year we support hundreds of charities through our Ask a Property Expert service, property training webinars, and bespoke consultancy projects.
By developing a Social Return on Investment (SROI) framework, the volunteer will help us capture and articulate the full value of this work, not just in financial terms, but in the wider benefits our support brings to the sector and communities. This includes the impact of volunteer hours, pro bono professional advice, and the long-term benefits for charities that can operate more sustainably and securely thanks to our guidance.
The insights from this project will help us
- Communicate our social impact more effectively to funders, partners, and stakeholders.
- Strengthen future funding bids and demonstrate accountability to supporters.
- Inform our internal planning and decision-making by showing which activities deliver the greatest value.
- Inspire more professionals to volunteer their time and expertise through our programmes.
- Contribute to wider discussions in the charity property sector about the value of pro bono support.
What are we looking for?
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience or knowledge of Social Return on Investment (SROI) or social value measurement.
- Understanding of the charity or voluntary sector, ideally small or resource-limited organisations.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with an ability to translate data into clear insights.
- Confidence working collaboratively with a small team.
- (Desirable) Familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Power BI, or experience conducting interviews or impact evaluations.
- Opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a national charity supporting the UK’s voluntary sector.
- Experience working with a charity board and leadership team.
- Insight into how property advice and pro bono professional support generate social value for communities.
- Flexible volunteering arrangement to fit around other commitments.
The Ethical Property Foundation is the UK’s leading property advice charity for the voluntary sector. We help charities and social enterprises manage their premises more effectively, reduce risk, and focus their resources where they’re needed most. Our small, dedicated team works alongside a national network of professional property partners to support hundreds of organisations each year through our Ask a Property Expert service, webinars, and consultancy projects.
We are seeking a volunteer Social Return on Investment (SROI) Project Adviser to help us over a short period, develop a clear framework for measuring and demonstrating the social value created by our work, one that is realistic and appropriate to our size and resources. This is an exciting opportunity to guide a small but impactful charity in evidencing its contribution to the voluntary sector and society more broadly.
Working closely with our Operations Manager, you will help us to
- Identify and define the key outcomes and outputs that reflect our social and organisational impact.
- Quantify the value of our volunteer contributions, pro bono professional support, and consultancy services.
- Develop a practical approach to measuring and presenting data, drawing on established SROI tools and methodologies.
- Support the design of simple data collection methods such as structured interviews or tracking volunteer hours.
- Advise on suitable social value frameworks and tools, including HACT, TOMS data, Social Value Engine, or Social Value UK.
- Advise on an appropriate SROI methodology and data collection strategy.
- Support the creation of a pilot model using existing data and assumptions.
- Help identify relevant indicators, metrics, and valuation sources.
- Guide the team in interpreting findings and presenting them clearly, for example through reports or visual summaries.
- Recommend practical steps to embed social value measurement into our ongoing work.
