A leading retailer in the North West of England is seeking a senior Trading / Buying professional to step into the role of Head of Buying, with responsibility for delivering profitable growth through value‑driven, innovation‑focused category strategies.

About the role:

You will lead cross‑functional teams and develop long‑term supplier partnerships within FMCG to drive sales, margin, and commercial income. Key responsibilities include:

• Leading strategic category planning and range reviews to achieve profitable growth.
• Negotiating with major suppliers and brands to secure competitive costs and long‑term agreements.
• Providing accurate forecasting, reporting, and delivery of commercial budgets.
• Championing innovation and differentiation in product ranges to ensure market competitiveness.
• Overseeing seasonal events, pricing strategies, and promotional execution.

About you

You will be an inspirational and forward‑thinking leader with a proven track record in sourcing and purchasing food products from both branded and own‑label suppliers in the UK retail sector. With a highly analytical and commercially astute mindset, you will lead from the front—able to inspire and influence teams through clear vision, planning, and engagement.

You will also bring strong negotiation skills, excellent communication, and cross‑functional leadership experience, combined with a passion for food, innovation, and customer experience.
