Celebrations Officer

City of York Council is looking for an Celebrations Officer in York

Job description

York Register Office within City of York Council has an exciting opportunity to join our celebrations team.

You will be working, when required, mostly at weekends and bank holidays, conducting ceremonies including Marriages, Civil Partnerships, Baby Naming and Renewal of Vows in venues around the city and at our Register Office at Bootham.

You may also be required to carry out clerical duties; deal with customers by email; telephone and face to face and produce copy certificates therefore attention to detail is essential.

You will need to be able to speak confidently in highly public situations as we conduct large ceremonies in venues such as hotels, halls and museums.

As you will be dealing with customers in extremely emotional and sensitive situations, your commitment to high quality customer service and your excellent inter-personal and communication skills will be an asset.

You will have the ability to work co-operatively with others, treat people fairly and equally and you can adapt your approach to secure a positive outcome.

As an organised individual you will be effective with time management and flexible.

As a great communicator, you’ll enjoy talking to a wide range of people and have the ability to consider your audience and use a range of methods, communicating in a positive and respectful manner.

You’ll have the ability to read, understand and adhere to registration laws as shown in the handbook for registration officers.

You will have a valid UK driving licence and have use of a car or be prepared to join the Enterprise Car Club Scheme. (Free to enrol)

Training will be provided.

Previous Registration experience would be an advantage.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
