Digital Asset Manager/Archivist in Hackney, London

Digital Asset Manager/Archivist for fashion brand - ResourceSpace database management

What are you going to do:

Katharine Hamnett London is seeking someone to help set up and maintain a Digital Asset Management system to store and catalogue its archive of images and video.

The project is for the fashion brand Katharine Hamnett. Recently relaunched after a hiatus, the business has an archive of digitised images and video dating back to the 1980s, as well as a growing collection of new media assets. The media includes recordings of catwalk shows, art videos and interviews, campaign and editorial photo shoots, press cuttings, and e-commerce product imagery.

The successful candidate will be required to learn the ResourceSpace DAM application and apply best practices to configure it to store past and future media. You will import existing media and work with the Katharine Hamnett team to apply metatags to help us identify media across multiple dimensions such as year, fashion season, product, director/photographer, model and so on.

We anticipate that the initial setup work should take no more than a few days, but it is important to get it right from the start. Subject to performance during the setup phase, there may be a continued role for someone to carry on the work of maintaining the database system, training the team, and cataloguing content.

The ideal candidate will be able to work from the Katharine Hamnett design studio in Hackney, London.

What we offer:

Katharine Hamnett is a fashion icon and activist responsible for many key movements in the industry. She has lent her famous slogan t-shirts to many causes, starting with the original Choose Life t-shirts worn by George Michael and Roger Taylor through to today's Choose Love t-shirt for Help Refugees and Don't Shoot for Black Lives Matter. She now leads the charge for sustainable and ethical fashion. Her innovations have included acid washed and distressed denim, power dressing, parachute silk jumpsuits, and military-styled sportswear; the latter became the inspiration for Kanye West's first fashion collection.

Katharine has worked with - and launched the careers of - many top models, photographers, and directors, all of whose work is represented in the archive. You will help us to distinguish between images from Juergen Teller, Terry Richardson, and Ellen von Unwerth, filming and photographing the likes of Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Yasmin Le Bon, and Kate Moss, among many others.

We offer an opportunity to work with a fun team for a highly respected and influential brand. The project is of key importance to the company as it builds its systems to support it for the decades to come.

You will be paid on an hourly or day rate to be agreed depending on your skills and experience.

What we ask:

  • Experience with database administration and/or digital media management
  • You must have some knowledge of Digital Asset Management systems and database applications in general, and be able to talk about it in an initial phone interview should you be selected.
