Job description

Kick-start your engineering career with a 12-month industrial placement on one of the UK’s most important low-carbon infrastructure projects. This Science & Engineering Placement gives you hands-on experience within a nationally significant energy programme, contributing to the UK’s climate and sustainability goals while developing real-world engineering capability.


You’ll join a major new-build nuclear project, gaining exposure to large-scale engineering, construction and project delivery in one of the most complex technical environments in the UK.


About the Opportunity

As an Industrial Placement student, you will work in a junior engineering role supported by experienced mentors, technical specialists and project delivery teams. You'll learn through hands-on work while building the practical skills, confidence and professional awareness needed for your future career.

You will have the chance to:

  • Work on real engineering challenges impacting the nuclear and energy sector
  • Apply academic knowledge to practical industry problems
  • Build technical, analytical and communication skills
  • Support engineering tasks across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Learn how major infrastructure projects are designed and delivered
  • Contribute to a programme with long-term national impact

Your placement will also include structured learning modules to support your degree requirements.


Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from students currently studying:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Ideal candidates will be:

  • Passionate about sustainability, low-carbon energy and the future of UK infrastructure
  • Interested in complex engineering systems and nuclear technology
  • Quick thinkers with adaptable, problem-solving mindsets
  • Strong communicators comfortable working in fast-paced environments
  • Ethical, collaborative and eager to learn
  • Motivated to contribute to a project with national significance


You must also be eligible for UK Security Vetting.


Location

You will be based at the project offices in Suffolk, working closely with engineering and project delivery teams. Some limited travel may be required to support learning and cross-team collaboration.
