About the Opportunity
NRL are currently recruiting for a Mechanical or Process Commissioning Engineer to support commissioning activities with one of our major clients on a national infrastructure project. Reporting to a Commissioning Manager, this role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the safe and successful commissioning of critical Infrastructure systems within the UK.
Working in a highly regulated and collaborative environment, you will take ownership of multiple systems and contribute directly to commissioning strategy, planning, and execution. This is a hands-on role with significant technical responsibility and visibility, supporting delivery excellence across safety, quality, and performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Mechanical or Process Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end commissioning of allocated systems. You will act as a subject matter expert for your systems, supporting commissioning readiness, execution, and system handover while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Taking ownership of 2–3 critical systems, developing in-depth system knowledge and acting as the technical subject matter expert.
- Producing and managing commissioning documentation, including procedures for testing, verification, and system validation.
- Supporting design reviews to ensure plant layouts and system configurations facilitate efficient and effective commissioning.
- Contributing to the detailed planning of commissioning activities, including ownership of defined commissioning test programmes.
- Participating directly in site-based commissioning activities, ensuring safe and successful commissioning of site systems.
- Reviewing and analysing commissioning results, producing clear and accurate technical reports summarising outcomes.
- Ensuring commissioning activities comply with nuclear, environmental, and industrial safety regulations, aligned with international best practice.
- Building strong working relationships with project delivery teams, site engineering, MEH functions, and plant operations to support integrated delivery.
- Promoting and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and technical excellence throughout commissioning activities.
What You Could Have
- Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent (e.g. HNC) with demonstrable experience as a mechanical and/or process commissioning engineer.
- Experience working within highly regulated industries, such as nuclear, utilities, oil & gas, or heavy manufacturing is advantageous.
- Baseline knowledge of EPR design or other PWR / power station designs.
- Strong technical background in process system testing, including flushing, pump testing, valve testing, and associated activities.
- Demonstrable experience working within robust safety and quality cultures.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical information.
- Knowledge of radioactive waste systems and/or fuel route processes.
