Switchgear Commissioning Engineer

Nationwide (UK & Offshore Travel Required)

We’re looking for an experienced Switchgear Commissioning Engineer to join a specialist site services team delivering commissioning, testing and technical support across medium and high voltage switchgear projects.


This is a field-based role with nationwide travel and occasional offshore/overseas assignments.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for commissioning, fault finding, testing and maintaining switchgear systems up to 36kV across customer sites and manufacturing facilities.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Commissioning and testing MV/HV switchgear (up to 36kV)
  • Fault diagnosis, investigation and rectification
  • Producing detailed technical reports and method statements
  • Conducting on-site risk assessments
  • Attending customer technical meetings
  • Supporting and training customer site personnel
  • Working independently on UK and offshore projects


This is a technically demanding role requiring strong self-sufficiency, particularly when working remotely without immediate factory support.

What We’re Looking For


Essential:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in switchgear testing & commissioning
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
  • Recognised technical apprenticeship in switchgear
  • Strong working knowledge of HV/MV safe systems of work
  • Experience working on customer sites independently
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel extensively (UK, offshore & overseas)


Desirable:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Specialist field test experience
  • Strong product knowledge of MV/HV switchgear
