Location: Edinburgh

Salary: £45,000 + Car Allowance

Shift Type: Days

The Opportunity

An established civil engineering and concrete frame specialist is seeking a Site Engineer to join its delivery team on a major RC frame project in central Edinburgh.


This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled site team working on technically challenging reinforced concrete and groundworks schemes. The successful candidate will play a key role in the technical delivery of the project, supporting setting out, engineering coordination and quality assurance while working closely with site management and subcontractors.


The position would suit an engineer who enjoys technical detail, problem-solving and collaboration, and who wants to contribute to the successful delivery of complex RC frame construction projects.


Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability

  • Support the delivery of project HSES targets and ensure safe working practices are maintained on site
  • Demonstrate an understanding of HSES regulations and communicate best practice to the workforce


Engineering & Construction Delivery

  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical information, communicating this effectively to the site team
  • Produce mark-ups, sketches, and calculations to support site activities
  • Maintain accurate site diaries and engineering records
  • Provide technical feedback on project elements including materials, subcontractors and design information


Setting Out & Survey Control

  • Carry out setting out and dimensional control for sections of the project
  • Produce as-built survey records for project documentation
  • Establish and maintain site control using primary control points
  • Manage and maintain survey equipment ensuring calibration compliance


Design Coordination & Technical Information

  • Interrogate design information and raise RFIs or technical queries where required
  • Ensure all engineering documentation on site is current and approved for construction


Quality Assurance

  • Assist in delivering the project Quality Plan and assurance targets
  • Conduct site inspections and resolve minor quality issues
  • Interpret specifications and assist in developing and implementing Inspection Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Maintain permit-to-work documentation in line with project requirements


Project Support

  • Provide material quantity information and call-offs
  • Assist with plant and logistics planning
  • Support temporary works coordination and inspections
  • Monitor programme progress and raise potential variations with senior or commercial teams


About You

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • HNC or higher qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Structural Engineering
  • Proven experience delivering setting out and engineering activities on RC frame or concrete construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of surveying and dimensional control techniques
  • Experience using CAD software for data transfer to/from survey equipment (EDM or similar)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers within a site environment
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving
