A Lorry Driver, or HGV Driver is responsible for transporting goods and deliveries to their intended destinations. Their duties include driving heavy goods vehicles, planning delivery schedules and unloading deliveries.Lorry Driver duties and responsibilities A Lorry Driver is responsible for the goods they are assigned to transport. They are responsible for keeping to a schedule and ensuring that the goods are delivered intact, without damages and as requested by the customer. A Lorry Driver's main duties and responsibilities include:Ensuring vehicles are mechanically sound and legally roadworthyPerforming basic repairs and maintenance in the event of accident or breakdown while in transitSafely securing heavy loads and large goods for transportOrganising the most efficient route from pickup point to drop off pointKeeping informed of road closures, accidents and traffic diversionsOrganising multiple drop-offs and deliveries in each working daySupervising and assisting with the loading and unloading of deliveries into the lorryUpdating vehicle log books, recording deliveries and tracking mileageComplying with all MOT and in-house regulations and rulesWhat does a Lorry Driver do? A Lorry Driver is employed by a delivery company or transport provider to deliver goods from a supplier to a customer. A Lorry Driver makes deliveries using large goods vehicles or heavy goods vehicles and is responsible for making deliveries on time and to the correct address. They are in charge of setting their own driving routes and daily schedule while also minimising fuel consumption and delivery times. A Lorry Driver delivers a wide range of goods that include industrial materials, food, beverages or consumer goods. The goods that they deliver vary depending on the industry they work in.
