A leading global automotive company is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to support its European litigation team on a contract basis; managing and resolving pre-claim and Small Claims Court matters across England and Wales.


Title: Controversies Litigation Paralegal (Contract)

Location Type: Hybrid

Location: Dunton, Essex (United Kingdom) – On-site 1 day/week

Hours: 40 Hours / Week

Duration: 6 Months (mid May – mid November)

Rate: $65/hour - $80/hour (USD)


Overview

This role will support a European Controversies team, managing consumer-related disputes across England and Wales. The successful candidate will take ownership of Small Claims Court matters from initial assessment through resolution, including advocacy at hearings.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong legal drafting, case management, and stakeholder coordination skills, with the opportunity to work closely with legal and business teams in a fast-paced corporate environment.


What You’ll Do

  • Manage a rolling caseload of Small Claims Court matters from inception through final resolution
  • Draft, review, and submit legal documents, including correspondence, statements of case, witness statements, and court applications
  • Represent the business as an advocate in Small Claims Court hearings
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support case strategy and broader team initiatives
  • Maintain accurate case records and reporting within case management systems
  • Partner with internal stakeholders (e.g., Customer Service, Engineering, Sales) to gather evidence and technical information
  • Handle escalations from customers and external legal representatives
  • Support the broader litigation team on complex matters and special projects


What We’re Looking For

  • Academic legal qualification (e.g., LLB or GDL) required
  • CILEX Litigation Certification strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing and advocating Small Claims Court matters in England & Wales
  • Strong understanding of Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and consumer protection law (including sale of goods and product liability)
  • Experience working in-house or within a large law firm environment preferred
  • Comfortable working under supervision of a qualified lawyer in line with regulatory requirements
