This is an interesting opportunity within the charity sector to use your project management skills to make a significant difference to a small but rapidly growing charity.
Fight Bladder Cancer is the only UK-based bladder cancer charity founded and run by bladder cancer survivors and their families. We support all people affected by bladder cancer, help to raise awareness, support medical research and campaign to affect policy at the highest levels to bring about change in bladder cancer treatment. Our aim is to achieve better outcomes and quality of life for all those affected.
The charity, which has a small team of core staff and a group of dedicated volunteers, is undergoing a period of change. We are gradually implementing new systems and processes which require project management support. Initially we plan to recruit a volunteer/intern to establish some standard methodologies and to work on specific projects. Examples of our projects include setting up Fight Clubs (support groups) nationally, implementing a CRM system and running awareness campaigns. We're not looking for Prince II expertise - ours will be a much less onerous methodology that allows a clear overview of projects with a fair amount of hands-on project involvement. You will be managed and mentored by our Founder and CEO (who has significant project management experience) and will be able to gain first hand experience of what it's like to make a significant contribution within a charity.
We are looking for someone who has had some experience of project management in an organisation and who has a serious interest in working within the charity sector. The team is pretty new and we're still working on the infrastructure so please only apply if you know you are comfortable working in an organic environment where you will have to use your initiative to help create your own role. Our website will give you lots more information about what we do and will hopefully give you a feel for our ethos and aspirations.
The type of person we have in mind is likely to be attracted by the following:
As a small charity we are able to be very flexible and agile - we'd like you to start soon but will discuss the length of the internship and the working pattern with you.
