About the role
Drummond Abernethy, pioneer of adventure play, described ELHAP as the "very best adventure playground for children with special needs". ELHAP is one of the most exciting adventure playgrounds for disabled and disadvantaged young
people because of its history, its space and its location. The Play Development Worker is a key role within the ELHAP playground and is responsible for the development of the physical playground as well as developing innovative adventure play opportunities in holiday playschemes, Saturday Clubs and term-time visits.
To get the most out of the role you will be motivated and creative with experience and knowledge in facilitating real adventure play choices and opportunities for disabled children and young people. You'll also be up for getting messy, muddy and willing to get involved in maintenance, building and decorating! Naturally, you'll need experience in supporting disabled children and young people and if this was in a play setting even better. You'll also be up to speed with equality and diversity, health and safety, and child protection.
ELHAP is one of only eight adventure playgrounds for disabled children and young people. For over 40 years we have provided fantastic play experiences to many thousands of disabled children from across North East London and Essex. We are an independent charity in a unique and magical setting, unlike any other.
