Apprentice Speech and Language Therapist – Walsall

Location: Walsall and surrounding areas

This four‐year degree apprenticeship offers a high‐quality, work‐based route to the B.Sc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy. You will be employed within the Trust while studying, with one day per week on campus, one day for directed study or placement, and the remainder of the week in your role across Mercian Trust schools.

Key Responsibilities

Commit to study and develop competence aligned to the KSB Document.

Conduct comprehensive communication and/or dysphagia assessment of patients, both adults and children, including those with complex presentations.

Use clinical reasoning to formulate diagnosis and agree personalised objectives.

Formulate and deliver individual communication and/or dysphagia care plans/programmes based on evidence‐based practice.

Evaluate patient progress, formulate prognosis, and adjust treatment programmes.

Make informed clinical decisions, including discharge planning and onward referrals.

Ensure competent use of SLT resources and safe use of equipment, including teaching, training and supervision of practice.

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum of 112 UCAS points (from 3 A levels or equivalent L3 qualification).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to foster good working relationships with key stakeholders.
