JOB TITLE: Junior Detection & Response Engineer

SALARY: £36,224

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester or Bristol

HOURS: Full-time - 35 hours a week. Including a rota for weekend working.

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

As a Junior Detection & Response Engineer in Lloyds Banking Group's Cyber Defence Centre, you'll learn hands on how to spot, investigate and respond to real cyber threats, supported by experienced engineers who will coach you to succeed. From analysing alerts and tuning detections to learning from live incidents, you'll build the skills, confidence and judgement needed for a rewarding career in cyber security-while being part of a team that's innovative, collaborative and committed to putting customers first.

You'll play a hands on role in protecting the organisation by helping identify suspicious activity, understand incidents, and contribute to an effective incident response through:

Responsibilities

Monitoring and analysing security alerts to identify and escalat genuine cyber threats

Carrying out initial triage and investigation, gathering evidence from logs, alerts and enrichment sources

Supporting detection engineering by reviewing alert behaviour, tuning existing detections and documenting expected outcomes

Using and testing established response playbooks, contributing to improvements where changes are clearly defined

Assisting with threat hunting and threat modelling, building practical understanding of attacker techniques and behaviours

Learning from real incidents through post incident reviews and continuous improvement activity

Working collaboratively with experienced colleagues, maintaining clear investigation notes and sharing knowledge

What you'll needThe strongest candidates bring curiosity, sound judgement and a genuine willingness to learn, as well as:

Qualifications

Formal training in cyber security, such as a degree, apprenticeship, professional certification or equivalent practical experience

Foundational understanding of security operations, threat detection concepts and common tools, such as SIEM platforms

Ability to analyse security logs, alerts and events to identify relevant information

Awareness of attacker tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs)

Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills

Clear communication skills, including the confidence to ask for support and explain findings to both technical and non technical audiences

Willingness to participate in an on call rota and regular weekend working where required
