Job description
Queensway Hospital, part of the specialist Ellern Mede Group, is seeking compassionate, motivated Healthcare Assistants to join our multidisciplinary team providing high-quality, trauma informed inpatient care for adults with complex mental health needs.
Our service supports individuals with significant emotional, behavioural, and relational difficulties who may not be effectively supported in traditional hospital environments. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, person centred care that promotes dignity, recovery, and independence.
This is a rewarding and challenging role where no two days are the same. You will receive a comprehensive induction and ongoing training in trauma-informed practice, autism-informed care, and Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA), enabling you to develop specialist skills within a supportive clinical environment.

Main duties of the job
Provide high-quality, compassionate care and support with daily living activities, including personal care, nutrition, and hygiene.
Deliver enhanced observations and support as directed by the Nurse in Charge.
Build therapeutic, trust-based relationships with patients who have experienced significant trauma.
Assist Registered Nurses in implementing and reviewing individualised care plans.
Use de-escalation and safe physical intervention techniques where required to maintain safety.
Escort and support patients to appointments, community activities, and therapeutic sessions.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including observations, food and fluid charts, and incident reports.
Promote safeguarding, infection control, and health and safety standards across the ward.
Contribute to structured therapeutic programmes and group activities.
Uphold professional boundaries, patient dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
Person Specification
Qualification
GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
Psychology degree
Experience
Experience working in a healthcare, social care, or education setting
Experience supporting individuals with mental health needs, learning disabilities, or autism
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
