At Maersk, we're transforming the world of global trade. As a Digital & AI Customs Apprentice, you'll become part of a forward-thinking team helping customers move goods around the world while learning how digital technology and AI are changing the customs industry.
This isn't a traditional apprenticeship.
Over two years you'll build a career in Customs while gaining one of the UK's newest Digital & AI qualifications. You'll work alongside experienced Customs professionals, support digital transformation projects, explore AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, improve business processes and help colleagues work smarter every day.
If you enjoy technology, asking questions and finding better ways of doing things, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll do
- Learn how international customs processes support global trade.
- Support the preparation and processing of customs declarations.
- Assist Customs teams with administrative and operational activities.
- Use digital systems to monitor shipments and customs activity.
- Explore how Artificial Intelligence can improve productivity and customer service.
- Help identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks.
- Create guides and resources to help colleagues use digital tools confidently.
- Use Microsoft Copilot and other AI technologies to support daily work.
- Analyse data to identify trends, opportunities and improvements.
- Support digital improvement projects across the Customs function.
- Build dashboards, reports and presentations to communicate insights.
- Work with colleagues across Operations, Customer Experience and Technology teams.
- Continuously look for smarter, faster and more efficient ways of working.
What we're looking for
We don't expect you to know everything. We're looking for people who are:
- Curious and eager to learn
- Passionate about technology and AI
- Excellent communicators
- Good problem solvers
- Organised and detail oriented
- Comfortable using computers and digital tools
- Positive team players
- Interested in international business and global trade
- Willing to challenge the status quo and suggest improvements
Entry requirements:
- 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4+ (A-C) in any subject.
- GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades 3+ (D or above).
- Prospective apprentices must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship in a similar subject.
You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.
If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
For more information please visit the UK ENIC website.
You'll be working: 37.5 hours - Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.30pm
What you'll gain
By the end of the programme you'll have:
- A nationally recognised Digital & AI Support Level 3 Apprenticeship.
- Real-world experience within one of the world's largest integrated logistics companies.
- Hands-on experience using AI in the workplace.
- Experience supporting digital transformation projects.
- Professional coaching and mentoring.
