We are searching for a Trainee Customs Operator to join our growing team in Liverpool.

The Trainee Customs Operator will support the processing of customs declarations under supervision, developing knowledge of customs procedures and compliance requirements. The role will act as a developing point of contact for clients on customs-related matters, ensuring supply chains run efficiently while learning to meet operational standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure all documents received for customs purpose contain the minimum standard of information required, to process accurately.
  • Support the submission of customs entries via Descartes E-customs in line with HMRC legislation, working towards achieving a 2-hour turnaround SLA for EU traffic with supervision
  • Support preparation and distribution of copy entries to clients
  • Assist with maintaining records in Leda for audit purposes
  • Develop understanding of compliance requirements and accurate data entry
  • Assist with processing customs amendments

Key skills and relevant qualifications

  • Strong numerical and data accuracy skills with high attention to detail
  • Basic understanding of international trade, customs procedures, or willingness to learn
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to learn and use customs systems (e.g. Descartes E-customs, Leda)
  • Understanding of the importance of compliance and regulatory requirements
