Overall Job Function
 
Responsible for:
  • Reviewing and approving head of terms with the commercial leasing team.
  • Managing the progress of the transaction, whether negotiating in-house or working external law firms.
  • Dealing with standard lease management documents such as agreements for lease, leases, deeds of variation, break notices, licences to alter etc.
  • Working with the UK Head of Legal on other real estate issues as needed.
     
Job Responsibility including but not limited to:
 
  • Instruct and manage external law firms.
  • Serving as liaison with external lawyers and the commercial leasing team (in-house legal run the transaction once heads of terms agreed and are the sole point of contact with external lawyers).
  • Ability to negotiate/review/draft real estate documents (with a specific focus on agreements for lease, leases, licences, side deeds).
  • Involved with all aspects of the Expansion Department (responsible for delivery of new stores, managing the existing portfolio and all support assets, including but not limited to offices, logistics etc) including construction, leasing, finance and facilities.
  • Actively facilitates the resolution of problems related to lease negotiations and re-negotiations.
  • Assists in the management of the lease portfolio (including reviewing co-tenancy issues, breaks and renewals) and in all other aspects of asset management.
  • Drafting asset management documents as required.
  • Performs all other duties assigned.
     
Minimum Candidate Qualifications:
 
0-3 PQE real estate lawyer, with focus on landlord and tenant work either in-house or at an established real estate practice. Tenant experience is particularly relevant.  
 
Competencies:
  • Strong negotiating and communication skills.
  • Can state facts, law and legal requirements clearly and logically in written and oral form. Needs to be a business person as much as a solicitor.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Competent in word, power-point and excel.
