Podiatry APPRENTICESHIP Band 5 Annexe 21
Within the Podiatry department here on the Isle of Wight we have the most brilliant opportunity for a suitably qualified enthusiastic individual to undertake a Podiatry degree through an apprenticeship scheme running in collaboration with Plymouth University. We are planning to commence the degree in September 2021- but the first part of this post will be to gather clinical experience prior to commencing the degree. This opportunity is being offered so you can undertake your clinical training here, and then virtually attend Plymouth University. (However, you will be an official Plymouth University student with full access to all University facilities). The basic principles are outlined below as to what this apprenticeship will look like:
The candidate will move onto an Annexe 21 pay arrangement whereby a Band 5 post funding will be held for this post and the candidate will receive the following salary:
-
Year 1: 65% of a Band 5 salary,
-
Year 2: 70% of a Band 5 salary
-
Year 3: 75% of a Band 5 salary
-
On completion of the degree course the candidate would be employed within the Trust as a Band 5 Podiatrist. Pay will be reflected accordingly as that at the time (subject to the usual uplifts and cost of living arrangements that have been put in place during the preceding 3 years.)
We in the Podiatry department appreciate that for some potential candidates this may result in a pay reduction initially.
At the end of the apprenticeship the apprentice will agree to work for the Trust for a period of at least two years following completion of the course in order to consolidate their training.
If this condition is not fulfilled, the apprentice may be liable to pay back any employer related costs incurred for clinical placement activity during the apprenticeship programme as defined in the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) Apprenticeship Funding Rules.
It is important that staff also recognise that they will leave the training programme without the usual ‘student loans’. A comparable saving of approximately £29,000 against full time entry route students. The full programme of the course will be discussed with candidates individually following success at the joint interview with ourselves and Plymouth University.
This post is 37.5 hours per week. You will have one day (7.5 hours) of mandatory interaction with Plymouth University. You will have 3 days (22.5 hours) of clinical input. The remaining 7.5 hours will change depending on whether you are in “term time” when you will have the opportunity for extra study time; or “vacation” when you will be expected to make up your clinical hours. The Health Care Professions Council(HCPC) who regulate Podiatry as a profession stipulate a minimum of 1000 clinical hours prior to graduation. The course is 3 years long.
As a Trust we hugely value your work as the backbone of the NHS delivering first class care to the residents on the Island and this feels like one way to reward your dedication and commitment. We do hope that you feel as excited as we do about this.
