NCS Assistant Team Leader - London/Dorset

2021 NCS Autumn Programme NCS (National Citizen Service) is a government-backed initiative with a mission to equip 15-17 year olds with the confidence, skills and support they need to make a real difference in their communities. The aim is to encourage young people from different backgrounds to mix through a local, community-based programme.  Twin offers a fixed-term contract and aims to provide longer employment consisting of a few waves. This is however, subject to the performance on the programme and young people numbers.

About the role 

Come and work for Twin, a delivery partner of NCS, this summer and become a Assistant Team Leader for a team of 15-17 year olds throughout our youth and community programme. 

Assistant Team Leaders will actively support and motivate groups of young people through the NCS programme, encouraging them to bond as a team and fully engage with the curriculum throughout the programme. They will support the Team Leader to deliver engaging activity sessions, facilitate discussions, guide and mentor young people. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Team Leader to be coached by them while delivering a set curriculum to a group of young people  
  • Safely and effectively inspire and motivate a team of up to 16 diverse young people  
  • Positively support all young people and maximise their NCS experience while on programme  
  • Set and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with young people in your care, and maintain adequate levels of participant discipline 
  • Represent NCS goals and values effectively with stakeholders (such as partnering charities).  
  • Supervise young people during breaks, meal and free times 
  • Attend staff meetings and training events, and complete NCS online modules as required 
  • The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of this post 
  • Help with successful delivery NCS content and facilitate appropriate programme activity 
  • Provide pastoral support to young people during NCS sessions sometimes working on a more individualised basis supporting young people 
  • Actively support programme delivery, including planning engaging activities delivered either face-to-face or via virtual means (if necessary), and guided reflections in line with the NCS ethos, and assist with session plans’ adaptation to suit young people’s needs, group dynamics, environment and time available 
  • Adhere to and ensure all policies and procedures are followed especially regarding safeguarding, consent, confidentiality, information sharing and data storage 
  • Implement Health & Safety standards/procedures for each activity/event including COVID-19 guidance 

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Experience and understanding of the issues affecting young people 
  • A desire/ambition to work with young people in a future career in youth work/teaching/youth sector 
  • Good interpersonal skills with people at all levels 
  • Ability to work in a highly pressured and fast paced environment 
  • Ability to create and foster an inclusive environment and support young people who are particularly vulnerable
  • A clear DBS check and satisfactory references

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working with young people, either in a voluntary/paid/family capacity 
  • Previous experience of NCS provision
  • Experience and/or knowledge of online delivery
  • A clean driving license and access to a vehicle (Dorset Only)
