Waltham Children’s Services is seeking a driven, proactive, and highly skilled Responsible Individual to lead two children’s homes — one currently rated Good and another preparing for registration and submission under your leadership. This is an exciting opportunity for an RI who excels in improvement-focused environments and brings a proven track record of achieving Outstanding outcomes.

We are looking for someone who is genuinely hands-on and action-oriented — a go-getter who takes initiative, spots what needs to be done, and delivers results without waiting for instruction.

About Waltham Children’s Services

Waltham Children’s Services was founded to provide high-quality, bespoke residential care to children and young people who need it the most. Our warm, structured, and nurturing homes offer children the safety and stability they need to grow, learn, and thrive.

Our vision is to become the leading provider of exceptional residential children’s services in the South East, and our four core values — warmth, security, structure, and empowerment — shape everything we do. We believe that when children feel safe and supported, they can reach their full potential.

The Role

As the Responsible Individual, you will:

Provide strong, strategic, and operational oversight across two children’s homes.

Lead one Good home forward and guide a new home through registration and early development.

Mentor, support, and challenge Registered Managers to drive excellence and embed best practice.

Ensure full compliance with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and Ofsted requirements.

Be present in Clacton-on-Sea at least one day per week to maintain visibility and hands-on leadership.

Drive improvement proactively — identifying opportunities, resolving issues quickly, and raising standards continuously.

Build strong working relationships with staff, external agencies, and local authority partners.

Promote a culture of professionalism, care, and high aspiration for children.

About You

You will excel in this role if you:

Are proactive, energetic, and improvement-driven.

Lead with confidence and care, and thrive in a role where initiative is essential.

Have a strong track record of achieving or contributing to Outstanding outcomes.

Essential Requirements

Experience as a Responsible Individual or Registered Manager in children’s residential care.

Robust knowledge of safeguarding, Ofsted frameworks, and the Children’s Homes Regulations.

Hands-on leadership style, able to work autonomously and drive progress.

Availability to work 3 days per week, including one on-site day in Clacton-on-Sea.

Desirable

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management (Children & Young People’s Services) or equivalent.

Experience registering or setting up new homes.

Understanding of therapeutic or trauma-informed practice.

What We Offer

Contract and PAYE available.

Flexible, supportive, and values-led working culture.

A pivotal leadership role with significant influence over service quality and development.

The opportunity to lead two homes at exciting stages of growth.

The chance to make a life-changing impact on the children we support.
