Ecologist in Glasgow
Eden Scott is looking for an Ecologist in Glasgow
Job description
Principal Aquatic Ecologist – Glasgow
Salary: £50,000–£60,000 DOE + benefits
Contract: Permanent, Full Time | Hybrid
A leading UK environmental consultancy is expanding its Aquatic Ecology team in Glasgow and is seeking a Principal-level Ecologist to deliver projects across freshwater, estuarine, and coastal habitats.
This senior role offers variety and autonomy: from leading surveys and impact assessments to mentoring colleagues, managing projects, and contributing to restoration and research initiatives. You’ll join a multi-award-winning ecology team within a national consultancy, recognised for technical excellence, collaboration, and commitment to sustainability.
The company employs around 180 ecologists across the UK, but maintains a flat hierarchical structure. The successful candidate will be only two layers of seniority from the Managing Director, ensuring visibility, influence, and genuine career progression. With a UK-wide reach, there is excellent scope to work on diverse projects nationwide.
Importantly, there is scope to expand the Aquatic Ecology team in Scotland, meaning this position offers outstanding career progression opportunities, including the potential to build and lead a team locally.
Key Requirements:
- Strong consultancy experience in aquatic/freshwater ecology
- Expertise in surveys (fish, macroinvertebrates, macrophytes), water quality and hydrology
- Knowledge of UK environmental regulations (WFD, Eels Regs, etc.)
- Membership of CIEEM/IFM/CIWEM (Chartered or working toward it)
- Full UK driving licence
- Licences for species such as white-clawed crayfish or freshwater pearl mussel are desirable but not essential.
What’s on Offer:
- £50,000–£60,000 DOE
- Flexible hybrid working
- Enhanced annual leave and wellbeing benefits
- CPD development with leading experts
- Pension, life assurance, and optional health perks
